Commenting on the visit, Tom Bewick said: “I’ve been visiting India since 2008 and in that time I have followed with interest how the country’s ambitious national skill development strategy is being implemented. Delegates heard about the cutting edge projects that are helping bridge the gap between employers and education, how different countries manage their resources and skills, therefore staying head of the latest global employment and skills trends.

The intern will gain a valuable insight into the workings of a successful sector skills organisation that is currently developing its international strategy, as well as work specifically on some INSSO projects, interacting with members worldwide.

INSSO has joined forces with the International Labour Organisation (ILO), based in Geneva, and the International Training Centre (ITC), based in Turin, in a €6.7 million bid to support technical and vocational skills development in India.

INSSO will act as a formal partner in the bid, supported in the UK by INSSO member, Improve Ltd, the Sector Skills Council for the food and drink-manufacturing sector.  Improve is already working successfully in India supporting the development of its equivalent Sector Skills Council in partnership with the National Skills Development Corporation of India.

This important move will provide INSSO with the means to generate revenues, raise membership and sponsorship fees, and provide consultancy services, all in support of its not-for-profit aims.

The new company will facilitate the sharing of best practice between sector skills organisations that become members of INSSO; and continue to champion the cause of industry-led skills development worldwide.

Tom Bewick (INSSO chairman), Jack Matthews, CEO of Improve Ltd and Simon Dancey, Nations and International Director, Creative & Cultural Skills, are the founding Board of Directors of INSSO (UK) Ltd.

The publication Labour Market Intelligence explains how INSSO member countries collect, analyse and disseminate sectoral labour market information to influence education providers, reform qualifications, as well as anticipate future industry skills needs.  Andrew Cardozo, executive director at the Alliance of Sector Councils in Ottawa, edited the book.
