About the Alliance of Sector Councils

Canada has 37 Sector Councils which form the Alliance of Sector Councils (TASC). TASC’s core remit is to help facilitate a cohesive approach to providing labour market solutions.

  • Sector councils work by engaging employers, workers, educators, professional associations and government in a strategic alliance that is focused on implementing solutions to the specific skills and human resource needs that will enable their sector to thrive.
  • Sector councils provide an industry-specific focus that highlights the technological advancements, human resource planning, training opportunities and industry forecasting that enable businesses across Canada to better prepare for current and future developments.
  • To provide support for these vital not-for-profit organizations, sector councils are partially funded by private sector investment, and the Government of Canada’s Sector Councils Program through the Department of Human Resources and Skills Development.
  • Sector councils address the labour market and skills issues involved in: engaging Aboriginal people in the labour market, career awareness/development, ensuring the education system (at all levels) prepares students for the work world, integrating internationally trained workers, providing timely labour market information to business leaders and decision makers, developing occupational standards and certification programs and ensuring skills upgrading and re-skilling tools are available to workers.

Canadian Alliance Mission

TASC’s mission is to promote the value of sector councils and to provide a forum for discussion, development, and implementation of common, long-term objectives.  TASC is a contact point for sectors to make key connections with government departments and other agencies, in order to further sector council initiatives.

The mandate of TASC is to

  • Address labour market issues and research needs shared by sector councils
  • Meet our member’s’ service needs
  • Address the leadership and promotional needs of the sector council approach
